There have been a few bleary eyes around the Westnet offices over the last couple of weeks as the football fanatics amongst us tackle all the late night World Cup action. As this month's Newsletter makes its way to your inbox, Spain is preparing to meet the Netherlands in the deciding match - so vuvuzelas at the ready!

Speaking of the 'world game', this month's Westnet Newsletter makes mention of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which for the first time is available in 3D. If you're unfamiliar with 3D TV and the technology on the horizon, we take a quick look at what's being touted as the 'next big thing' in home entertainment.

We also bring you news of a Westnet win at the recent ATA state awards, plus some lucky winners in Westnet Hosting's 'win a website' competition. We've also got loads of passes to a couple of great new movie releases up for grabs - so make sure you get your name in the draw.

Just finally, we've received word of a few spam emails landing in Members' inboxes claiming to be from Westnet. The emails request a reply with your Westnet username and password to avoid account deactivation.

We'd like to reassure Members that these emails are not legitimate as Westnet never asks for such account details via email. We ask that you delete any such emails immediately, or give our Support Team a call on 1300 786 068 if you're unsure.

Until next month...

Remember, if you have any comments or recommendations for the Westnet Newsletter please email us at newsletter@westnet.com.au. We trust you will enjoy our July edition and we wish you the best of luck for our competitions!

Internet Jargon

A Bulletin Board System, or BBS, is a computer  system running software that allows users to connect and log in to the system using a terminal program. Once logged in, a user can perform functions such as uploading and downloading software and data, reading news and bulletins, and exchanging messages with other users, either through electronic mail or in public message boards. Many BBSes also offer on-line games, in which users can compete with each other, and BBSes with multiple phone lines often provide chat rooms, allowing users to interact with each other.Wikipedia

Dear John (2010)Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)
Starring: Logan Lerman, Sean Bean
Director: Chris Columbus

Mythology and the modern world collide in this epic quest for justice by Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), your basic below-average, misfit student whose family life is a mess and who's misunderstood by everyone except his best friend, Grover (Brandon T. Jackson). A voice warns that everything is about to change as Percy enters the New Roman and Greek Art Gallery on a school field trip, and, indeed, it does. Based on the books by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is an exciting action film rich with ancient mythology, yet set squarely in the 21st century. Enriched by strong special effects and some potently disturbing images, it is a powerful story about family, trust, determination, and love. (Ages 11 and older) - Tami Horiuchi

The Discovery of France: A Historical GeographyThe Ball is Round: A Global History of Soccer
By David Goldblatt

There may be no cultural practice more global than soccer. Rites of birth and marriage are infinitely diverse, but the rules of soccer are universal. No world religion can match its geographical scope. The single greatest simultaneous human collective experience is the World Cup final.

In this extraordinary tour de force, David Goldblatt tells the full story of soccer's rise from chaotic folk ritual to the world's most popular sport-now poised to fully establish itself in the USA. Already celebrated internationally, The Ball Is Round illuminates soccer's role in the political and social histories of modern societies, but never loses sight of the beauty, joy, and excitement of the game itself.
