Westnet to source bandwidth from Optus
Westnet announced today that the company would use Optus as the ISP’s sole wholesale supplier of bandwidth across Australia.
At present, Westnet is using Telstra Wholesale as its upstream provider in Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. The company also had an interim agreement with AAPT who supplied bandwidth for Westnet customers in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory for a period of two months.
Westnet have commenced work to switch bandwidth suppliers in each state, a process that will be largely finished by the end of May. Westnet currently use Optus bandwidth for their Western Australian internet customers and expect all of its bandwidth requirements to be provided nationally by Optus by mid July.
"We are pleased to enter into an agreement with Optus that will give Westnet a single bandwidth supplier across the entire country. This is both advantageous and preferable to utilising different suppliers in each state." said Westnet Managing Director Peter Brown.
"Optus remains committed to the wholesale market as a full service telecommunications provider. Optus look forward to continuing and strengthening our partnership with Westnet," said Optus Wholesale Acting Managing Director, David Katz.
Mr Brown said Westnet chose Optus because they are one of only a few carriers with an IP-based network that has the national and international capacity for what Westnet requires now and into the future.
