Westnet to provide broadband ADSL2+
Westnet is currently conducting product testing and working to develop infrastructure that will deliver the new service to customers. An exact date for the launch of Westnet ADSL2+ services will be confirmed following the product testing and development.
Broadband ADSL2+ is an enhanced ADSL service which has been labelled as the next generation of broadband. ADSL2+ offers theoretical speeds of up to 24Mb/s, up to 16 times faster than the fastest Westnet broadband ADSL connection.
The company is well positioned to enter the ADSL2+ market with over 170,000 internet customers. At present, over 115,000 of these customers are on a regular broadband ADSL connection.
“We are excited to bring this technology to our customers. The agreements with Optus and PowerTel will give Westnet customers currently on a dial up or normal broadband connection access to an incredibly high-performance internet service,” said Westnet Managing Director Peter Brown.
“I believe the benefits of this product to the user coupled with Westnet’s award-winning customer service will drive our ADSL2+ offerings in the marketplace,” said Brown.
Mr Brown also said that he envisaged broadband ADSL2+ to be a highly successful addition to Westnet’s product stable due to the connection speeds available and the rise of new media and content offerings.
“With the growing popularity of rich media content, I think internet users will look to high-speed broadband to access and experience these services and media,” said Brown.
