Zimlets

A Zimlet is a cool third party program which can offer 'mash ups' - cool features you wouldn't expect from your email, which use outside technologies.

Video Live! Zimlet - allows you to drag and drop YouTube and Google Video links received via email, into a window in your Webmail interface which then runs the video so you no longer have to navigate away from Webmail to go to the YouTube or Google Video websites.

Google translator - translate email content or conversations quickly and easily using the Google translator zimlet. Simply select the email/conversation you would like to translate and drag it across to the Google translator zimlet (icon appears in left hand side of your webmail) and select the language you would like it to be translated into. The translated content will appear.

Wikipedia - look up anything and everything on Wikipedia with the Wikipedia zimlet. Just hover over the Wikipedia icon (in left hand side of your webmail) and a search bar will appear for you to submit what you want to look up, then press ok. You will then be taken to the relevant Wikipedia article. It's as simple as that.

Additional Zimlets will be added over time.

What plan have I been switched over to?
If you did not have our Email Protection service you have been automatically transferred to the Extras plan. Customers who had Email Protection on their account have been automatically switched over to the Advanced plan (Email Protection is an included feature of this plan). If you had an additional paid email address, this address only has been migrated to a ProPlus1 plan.
I have up to five additional free mailboxes, which account type will they transfer to?
Whatever your principal account has moved to, your additional accounts have been moved to the same account type.
What is Email Protection?

Westnet's Email Protection package can scan your incoming email for viruses and spam before they reach your Westnet mailbox. This decreases the likelihood of a harmful message infecting your computer. Email Protection has been offered as a separately priced product from Westnet to date. It will be now provided as a feature of the Advanced plan and can no longer be purchased as a separate product.

If an email containing a virus is detected, the entire message is discarded and a notification message is sent to you detailing the infection. If a message has a 'spam probability' of 50% or more, it will also be intercepted and a daily summary of all spam emails quarantined will be sent to you. From this summary email you are able to release spam messages of interest back to your email box.

For more information on Email Protection which is a feature of the Advanced plan, or to upgrade to the Advanced plan, please click here.

Did I lose any information when I was migrated over to Webmail?
No. All your information and saved settings such as email forwards, contacts and current emails have followed over to Webmail.
How do I know how to use the new webmail platform?

Visit MyHelp for comprehensive information on how to check your inbox, reply to an email, place an email in a folder and a whole heap more.

A number of tutorials are available on this page. These tutorials will provide you with a walk through guide to commonly used functions of Webmail including;

How to check my inbox, reply to an email, delete an email, place an email in a folder and send an email.

How much space will I have to store my emails?

The amount of storage you have to store your emails is dependant on the plan you have been migrated to.

If you did not have Email Protection you have been migrated to Webmail Extras 50MB. If you have Email Protection you have been migrated to Webmail Advanced 200MB. Post migration you will have the opportunity to upgrade your storage options for each plan.

Webmail Plan Default Storage Space Storage Upgrade Options
Webmail Extras
50MB
200MB
Webmail Advanced
200MB
500MB, 1GB
Webmail ProPlus1
1G
NA

Storage limits will now be strictly enforced.

If you exceed your storage limit, you may not be able to receive emails until you reduce your mailbox size (delete emails) down to within your mailbox limit. This will recur each time your mailbox exceeds the mailbox limit.

You can monitor your usage through our online account management tool, MyAccount.

Can I buy additional email storage?

Yes.

All those on the Extras plan can increase their storage space to 200MB for $15 per year.

All those on the Extras plan can increase their storage space to 200MB and have Email Protection for $30 per year.

All those on the Advanced plan can increase their storage space to 500MB for $20 per year, or to 1GB for $40 per year.

I did not want to change my email system, can I stay on the old one?
No you are not able to remain on your previous email platform. Westnet is migrating all members over to new Webmail system. You will be able to perform all of the functions you had access to, plus many more. Westnet have researched extensively to find an email platform which will provide a more enriched email life for all of our members and we are sure you will be pleased with the additional functions now available to you.
Is there a lighter version of Webmail for members?
Yes there is a 'Lite' version available for use and recommended for those with slow internet connections. To access the 'Lite' version you will simply need to check the 'Lite Client' box as you go to log in to Webmail. Dialup members may prefer to use the Lite version however there are some limitations if you choose this option. As you log in to the 'lite' version, it will be quicker to load, but it will not contain all the features of the full version. The login page will also remember that you selected the 'Lite' version and will always have that pre-selected for you.
Can I check my emails using a mobile device?
Yes. A mobile interface has been designed for My WebMail specifically for mobile devices such as a Mobile phone or other portable devices e.g. iPod, PSP. To check email on a mobile device simply go to mobile.westnet.com.au. This will then direct you to a lightweight login page which has been designed to go faster and fit on smaller screens of mobile devices.
What happens if I want to access my emails using POP3?
You can use your favourite email client, be it Outlook, Thunderbird etc. to connect to Webmail using POP3. If you have previously elected to leave a copy of all your POP3 messages on the Westnet mail server ("Leave messages on server" or "Leave a copy of messages on server") then the first time you log into your mailbox using POP3 after it has been migrated your email client will need to re-download all your messages. This is required in order to re-synchronise your mail client with the new Westnet server. This will only occur the first time you log into your new mailbox using POP3 and you have previously enabled leaving a copy of your messages on the server. When you use POP3 on subsequent occasions, only new messages will be retrieved.
Why am I not able to switch from the Lite client to Advanced?
If you have a screen resolution lower than 1024 * 768 you can only use the Lite client. Your webmail client will automatically detect your screen resolution and where it is less than 1024 * 768 you will be switched to the Lite client. If you go on to select the Advanced client (once logged into the Lite client) the page will reload but will still remain in the Lite client. The only way this can be resolved is when the screen resolution is increased to more than 1024 * 768.
What contributes to my mailbox size?
Every message in your mailbox is counted towards your total mailbox size. If you are a webmail user, additional items such as your Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Documents, which are stored within the webmail client, will also contribute to your total mailbox usage. If you have lots of contacts within your webmail contacts list, as well as lots of calendar, document or task entries, you may find that you start exceeding your allocated mailbox quota sooner. To ensure that you maximise your mailbox storage, try to remember to periodically empty your Sent Items, Deleted Items, and Drafts folders as well as periodically reviewing your usage of the additional features offered by the webmail client.
How long does it take for my password reset to take effect in Westnet webmail?
After a password reset has been requested (either through MyAccount or by contacting our Technical Support team) you should allow 15 minutes before you access your webmail. This is to allow sufficient time for the password reset to come into effect. If you reset your password and try to log into your webmail within 15 minutes you will receive login errors. After 15 minutes have lapsed you should be able to successfully login to webmail.
