Westnet's superfast broadband brings competition to Kalgoorlie

9 May 2011: More than 8400 Kalgoorlie households and businesses now have access to faster internet speeds and a more competitive broadband market after Westnet officially launched its new network today.

Westnet and parent company iiNet invested more than $5 million in high speed broadband infrastructure in regional Australia this year, with Kalgoorlie securing more than 1400 new points of broadband access offering a service as good as anywhere else in Australia.

Matthew Dunstan, General Manager Retail at Westnet, said they are looking forward to providing locals with superfast, affordable broadband alongside their award-winning customer service.

"Regional cities are crying out for faster broadband speeds and with Kalgoorlie a longtime Westnet supporter, we knew an investment in a new high speed broadband network would prove popular,' Mr Dunstan said.

"By building our own high speed broadband network, we can offer better value and bigger quotas as well as our new internet television service, fetchtv. In a Kalgoorlie first, residents can now access high definition digital subscription television over their broadband connection.'

Shane Hockley, local resident and one of the first Westnet customers who will be transferred to the new network, said his family was looking forward to improved broadband speeds.

"We have three teenage sons- triplets who are all currently studying for a mining degree. The new network will mean we will get faster internet for a better price. We're certainly not complaining and the boys are looking forward to using it for both study and play,' Mr Hockley said.

By teaming one of Westnet's broadband2+ plans with our Netphone service, members will get cheaper phone calls, useful technology, better performance, better customer service and fast, reliable internet in one package.
