Changing broadband providers made easy

Tuesday 17 June 2003

Choosing your first broadband Internet provider may be hard, but switching to a new one does not have to be. Westnet is one of the first Internet Service Providers to offer a new ADSL Transfer process that allows broadband members the freedom to change providers at no cost and almost no downtime at all.

Switching Broadband Internet providers used to be a very expensive and inconvenient process. Broadband members changing service providers had to pay a new connection fee, in most cases around $99, as well as put up with extended service outages of 5-10 working days.

All that has changed with a new ADSL Transfer process made available in Australia last week. The new transfer process allows Broadband members of participating ISPs to more easily switch providers, with an average outage of around one hour.

"We are very enthusiastic about the introduction of the DSL Transfer process and very excited about offering our members the new level of freedom that this process brings", said Westnet Managing Director, Mr Peter Brown.

In the near future most service providers will offer the transfer process, which means that customers will be able to easily switch broadband networks to find the best fit for their needs. No longer will the cost of switching or long service outages deter customers from joining their preferred ISP.

Broadband numbers are currently estimated at 500,000 nationwide. Forecasts predict an increasing rate of Broadband take up towards the end of the year.

"In the last 12 months, we have experienced a very strong growth in the Broadband market. Our competitive product offerings and superior network management will ensure long term stability for ADSL", said Mr Brown.

Rated Number 1 ISP in WA by the Western Australian Business News, Westnet has committed to welcoming new customers to its network free of charge. The transfer process won't cost anything for a new broadband member on a 12 months contract; whilst a small $29 charge will apply for new members joining with no contract commitment.
