Westnet was founded in the Western Australian city of Geraldton in 1994. In 1996 it was purchased by local company Mitchell & Brown Communications and experienced rapid growth over the years as a local Internet Service Provider.
In 2000, Westnet had extended its local call Internet access throughout Western Australia and, though now based in Perth, continued to focus mainly on regional communities state-wide. By 2002, Westnet's coverage increased nationally and opened the doors for the company to begin providing competitive Internet products to consumers Australia-wide.
Westnet currently serves over 200,000 members across a range of internet access, phone, hosting and email protection products. In May 2008, Westnet was acquired by fellow Western Australian internet service provider, iiNet.

The Paraplegic Benefit Fund (PBF) is a not-for-profit organisation providing financial benefit to people with spinal cord injuries. PBF also invest in preventing injury and finding a cure for spinal injury. Along with our involvement with PBF, Westnet is proud to sponsor World Vision with sponsor children in Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Mozambique, Peru and Vietnam.
